Starts with an Autumn green blouse...

I'm absolutely loving all the wonderful jewel tones this Fall. Of these colours, green has never really played a part in my wardrobe. However, this sheer blouse in teal green (purchased at 30% off at FNO in Las Vegas no less!) has changed my mind.

I'm especially loving the details like the vents in the back and the pleating, which creates a nice long look.

Starts with Inspiration: 2012 Emmys Edition

Last night's Emmys red carpet was an exercise in colour and texture identification. Among the sea of pastels, burgundy, bright citron (my favorite hue of the night!), here are my top three favourites.

Julianne Hough looked every bit the ethereal mermaid princess in Georges Hobeika Couture. Loving her old-Hollywood inspired look. And the aqua-ivory combo? Just divine.

Julie Bowen epitomized shock-rock with her electric yellow Monique Lhuillier dress. The bright hue was head-turning, but the feminine lines and geometric draping kept her looking every inch the classy lady.

I saved the best for last. It's not always easy wearing a dress that technically clashes with the red carpet. But one look at Ginnifer Goodwin's tangerine dress paired with matching Christian Louboutin shoes proves that sometimes it's okay to break the rules. The detailing on this dress is insane, no other accessories are needed, the appliqué detail is in itself the proverbial icing on the cake.

Starts with Inspiration: Nude Pumps

I have been on the search for the perfect nude pump for years now. With Fall undeniably on its way, and with chilly days making open-toed shoes no longer a practical option, a nude pump is an easy way to create a longer leg while still keeping those toes warm. Below are my current top 3 nude pumps:

In my opinion, no one does a nude colour better than Jimmy Choo.  Not too pink and not too yellow, these are the perfect match for my skin tone. I'm also loving the almond-shaped toe of the Gilbert, which renders this shoe universally flattering and a great pairing with any outfit.

The Christian Louboutin Pigalle Plato pump in patent nude leather is also a great choice. Also, because a high heeled shoe is not always the most comfortable, the subtle platform not only further elongates the leg, but provides a bit of reprieve to what could otherwise be an unmanageable heel height (4 3/4 inches)

Finally, the classic pointed pump. This version, by Semilla, has a subtle point which is flattering on shorter legs (I find that pointed shoes where the point is too long or sharp actually creates the illusion of shorter legs).
At almost half the price of the two other options above, it's an eye-catching shoe while being a bit gentler on the wallet.

Notice a trend? They're all patent leather. For a nude pump, patent leather provides a bit more dimension so the shoe doesn't blend in with the legs exactly. I haven't committed to a pair just yet, but that doesn't mean I haven't been obsessively researching/trying on nude pumps. I think any of the above would be a great choice and would definitely be a staple in my wardrobe for seasons to come. Unfortunately, this also means my Fall shopping list is steadily growing...decisions, decisions, decisions!

Starts with black and blue lace...

Nothing is lovelier than late summer weddings. It's the perfect weather for being outdoors.
My hubby and I were at a few weddings this summer, and at each one, we felt so fortunate to be invited to share this special time with our friends and family.

For this particular wedding, I wore my Robert Rodriguez dress, which was a sale purchase from Holt Renfrew two years ago. Its clean lines along with the blue silk and eye-catching contrasting overlay have made this a staple for many special events.

When I first saw this dress, I was immediately drawn to the unique design of the lace. I also love the slimming wide waistband and the gorgeous detailing on the eyelash-fringe hem.

I paired the dress with a statement necklace that I actually wore at my own wedding a year ago. It feels nice to be able to wear items that have sentimental meaning over again. It also livened up the neckline of an otherwise go-to piece, giving it a new look.

What statement pieces in your wardrobe to you find yourself reaching for over and over again?

Starts with Las Vegas...Part II

Since it was my hubby's first time in Vegas, we planned all sorts of sight-seeing. First stop? The "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign of course!
Las Vegas Las Vegas

We usually like to balance nature with city when we travel, and a drive out to Red Rock Canyon did just that. Despite the sweltering heat, the views were gorgeous and provided the perfect backdrop for our photos.

During our drive, we came across this perfect stretch of road - we literally pulled over to soak in the view and snap some quick pictures.

This mini road-trip was a great way to momentarily escape the craziness of the strip (which I wouldn't trade for anything!), for those making a trip out to Vegas soon, I highly recommend it!

Starts with Las Vegas...Part I

Hello from Las Vegas!

The weather has been shockingly hot. But nothing helps get your mind off the heat than the stunningly beautiful fountain show at the Bellagio hotel. Even though I've been to Vegas a few times, without fail, the fountain always impresses me.

And when the heat became too extreme to bear, the many indoor shopping centers offered welcome respite.   The architecture inside Crytals at City Center is gorgeous - walking outside the shops is just as breathtaking as inside.

As luck would have it, we were also in Vegas for Fashion's Night Out. There were events taking place in multiple locations along the Strip, but we decided to check out the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace.

What a treat it was! There were gifts with purchase, champagne, treats, and fantastic photo-ops.

I would have to say that the highlight of the evening was the photo booth at Marc by Marc Jacobs, where we got to throw "money" in the air while posing with their pink polka-dotted elephant in the window. Only in Vegas...

Starts with a Las Vegas packing list (part II)...

In my last post, I talked about what I would be packing for my Las Vegas trip carry-on bag. Here's what I'll be packing in my personal bag to ensure I'll have easy access to all my in-flight essentials.

What to Pack for Las Vegas Carry-on

Top row: Scarf in case it gets chilly during the flight (Gucci), large tote to carry everything in (Louis Vuitton)

Middle row: passport in Danier Leather case, Chimes ginger candies, small wallet for US cash (Burberry), foldable tote, wallet (Marc Jacobs).

Starts with a Las Vegas packing list (part I)

For our one-year wedding anniversary, the hubby and I have planned  a trip to Las Vegas. While I've been there a few times, this will be his first trip, so I've got lots planned to see and do. I've learned from much business travel that it's easiest to pack a carry-on bag where possible so versatility and mixing-and-matching are definitely pluses. And don't forget, with flight security regulations, no large liquid bottles!

Here's the plan:

Day Time:
September weather in Vegas is extremely hot ( day time temperatures of ~40 degrees Celsius!), so comfort and coolness are crucial. For day-time, I've packed maxi dresses, a tank dress, and a silky flowy tank to be paired with cotton shorts. I'll be wearing flats most of the time because of all the walking we'll be doing. I've also brought a shoulder-bag for day-time sightseeing that can be used as a large clutch for evenings.

For evenings, we've opted to keep things relatively casual. However, for nights where we have a dinner or show planned, I've included a few dressier pieces. This includes a studded tank to be paired with silk cargo shorts, gold snakeskin pumps, and a large purple clutch (also used for day-time). For our dinner, I'll be wearing a coral-coloured strapless dress, which will be paired with the same pumps, and a smaller bag.

I've picked accessories that work for both day and night. This includes versatile skinny belts (for cinching-in the maxi dresses or paired with shorts) and necklaces, my trust Hermes clic-clac bangle, and a silk scarf that can be used indoors where the A/C tends to be a bit intense.

I'll be sure to bring travel-sized versions of my  favourite sunscreen, fragrance, and hair products. I've also packed a curling iron for dressier nights, and a flat iron for day. The hot weather sometimes causes my hair to do funny things, but the dryness also means that my attempts to curl my hair usually lasts.

What to pack for Las Vegas
