Wishlist: Balenciaga Giant 12 rose gold City

Balenciaga motorcycle, Balenciaga City, Balenciaga poppy
Since its d├ębut in 2001, the Balenciaga Motorcycle bag has officially transitioned from "it" bag to cult classic. Over the years, my obsession over this bag has helped me acquire the ability to identify each model, colour, and leather by season, but surprisingly never an actual bag to materialize in my collection. With Alexander Wang recently joining Balenciaga in Nicolas Ghesquiere's departure, one of the first changes is the announcement that the rose-gold hardware will soon be discontinued. The sentimentalist in me is thinking, maybe this is a sign to finally take the plunge?

Starts with Inspiration: SAG Awards 2013 Edition

Hot on the tails of the Golden Globe Awards come this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards. Below are my top three picks for best dressed, and what an eclectic list it is. What I especially loved were the different plays on colour and textures - it's really starting to get my mind spinning for Spring!

First on my list is Marion Cotillard in Dior. The navy and white colour blocking conjures thoughts of very refined nautical chic, while the subtle high-low hem is feminine and fun.

Second on my list is Nina Dobrev's Elie Saab dress in hot fuchsia. The lace cut-out detailing adds a bit of edginess to this otherwise understated and elegant dress, but best of all, this dress looks wonderfully comfortable to wear.

Finally, Sarah Hyland in Dolce & Gabbana is hot, hot, hot. In one of my favourite colours, this simple sheath with lace detailing is eye-catching and perfectly timeless.

Starts with a resolution...

A typical "style" post this is not, but I felt it necessary to share my new year's resolution in an effort to ensure I keep focused and motivated. I recently signed up for my first ten-kilometre run. I have a little under four months to ramp up from my current 4.5 km  to reach the full ten. First step? Proper attire and shoes to ensure I keep warm and avoid injury...and nothing like a bit of retail incentive of course.

Starts with a camel coat...

Happy Monday! It was an absolutely lovely weekend here - so mild in fact that I finally got to shed my down parka and slip into my camel coat! My hubby and I went downtown to the St. Lawerence Market and enjoyed a feast of delightful treats for brunch. We had peameal bacon breakfast sandwiches from Carousel Bakery, fried calamari and French fries from Buster's Sea Cove (they also have an amazing food truck!) and Portuguese custard tarts from Churrasco's. If you ever get the chance to visit the market these are "must-do's"!

I've been searching for a classic camel coat for what seems like forever. In fact, last year, I had ordered a similar coat from J.Crew at 40% off. Unfortunately however, it was delivered to my front door while I was at work, and got stolen! Luckily, J.Crew has reissued their stadium-cloth boulevard trench (select colours now on sale with an additional 30% off!) and I was able to get my second chance this winter.

I hope however you spent your weekend you were able to enjoy the mild weather. Have a great week!

Starts with Inspiration: 2013 People's Choice Award Edition

The People's Choice Awards have a decidedly less formal vibe, and what great fortune too, because last night's dresses were a-maz-ing!. Below are my top three faves:

Sleek, stunning, and sexy. Need I say more?

I seem to be gravitating more and more towards Peter Pilotto's psychedelic print dresses. This is the perfect youthful-yet-chic choice for Ms. Watson. I actually clapped when she won!

An otherwise safe and feminine silhouette is glamified by edgy leather. Well-played Ms. Aniston.

Starts with a shirt dress...

...and a beautiful island called Moorea in French Polynesia.

French Polynesia, Moorea, what to pack for beach vacation, shirt dress

It's been a few months since my hubby and I went on our belated honeymoon to the French Polynesian islands. With the mid-winter season yet to come, there's no better time than now to reminisce about warm breezes and azure waters. Packing for a winter getaway? Don't forget your shirt dress.

A classic shirt dress is the perfect piece for a warm destination. It's an ideal cover-up for breakfast (bathing suits are a huge restaurant no-no for me, unless you're eating on the beach) and when styled with a few dressy accessories, it can take you from the beach to a casual dinner in no time. As you may also recall, I'm also a strong advocate for multi-use items for efficient packing, so this trip was no different.

Moorea is truly one of the most beautiful and lush locations I've ever visited. While we were there, we had the opportunity to take an ATV tour around the island and if you ever get a chance to do so, I highly recommend it. It really was the best way to tour the island and take in some pretty life-changing views from the various mountain tops. Who would have thought a valley full of pineapple plants would take my breath away? The real highlight however, was our snorkelling trip with sharks and stingrays in the ocean. There is nothing quite as enthralling as standing in water while watching wild stingrays and black-tip reef sharks swim calmly around you.

I'm slowly but surely going through the rest of our photos, I can't wait to share these with you!

Fashion News: Intermix acquired by Gap Inc.

Intermix, Gap, Gap acquires Intermix

Women's Wear Daily reported today that Gap Inc. has acquired Intermix in a $130M deal. This new relationship serves as a win-win for both parties. Not only can Gap continue to build its credibility in the luxury market with Intermix, but Intermix now has the benefit of a large corporation to continue to build its own empire. Intermix is my go-to shop for Vita Fede gold jewellery, on-trend denim, and to drool over the Proenza Schouler PS1. Does this mean improved e-Commerce and more Canadian stores for Intermix? Let's hope so!
