Starts with Inspiration: Guess Summer '14 Collection

Winter's new term, "Polar Vortex" has graced us one again with its presence this week. Of course, when it's sub-zero, icy, and snowy outside, it's the perfect time to start planning for beach days and seaside strolls.

I was invited to preview the Guess Summer 2014 collection this week, and it was like a sip of an icy cocktail under the sun - heavenly and refreshing. Summer 2014 is inspired by sun-kissed safari and the South of France. These two seeming dichotomies actually complement each other very well. The sweet faded pastels of safari contrasted perfectly against the feminine white lace details.

Stand-out details included lace details, corset-style closures, and tie-dye. My favorite? Poolside-ready rompers in linen dyed to resemble denim and loose crochet tanks and sweaters perfect for bikini-layering.

Starts with a morning routine...

I'm not going to lie, my morning routine is anything but "wash n' go". However, with a few vital products in my make-up arsenal a potentially long prep time is greatly decreased. Though  I've dedicated previous posts to a few of my favourite products (here and here), I've since added a few new ones to my list of must-haves.

The perfect accessory to carry all these essentials? A Louis Vuitton cosmetic case, which my parents brought back for me from their last trip to Europe.

As you can see I use quite a few products from the Dior Diorskin Nude line. For someone who does not like heavy make-up, this particular line offers enough coverage while still being sheer, light, and very natural-looking.

The Dior Addict Lip Glow is somewhat of a miracle product. It`s a balm that goes on clear and then works with your lip chemistry to enhance your natural colour. Perfect for days at the office. Conversely, the YSL Glossy Stain is a wonderful, long-lasting lip stain that offers the perfect amount of berry pink.

If you have specific questions about any of the products above, feel free to leave a comment below!

Happy Tuesday!

Starts with Inspiration: 2014 Golden Globes

Happy Golden Globes day! To be honest, I usually can't sit still long enough to finish the awards pre-shows. However, this year's Golden Globes was an exception. It was truly one masterpiece after another. And can we please talk about all the perfectly slightly undone chignons? I seriously need to up by hair-game at my next formal event. Here are my top picks for the night:

Amber Heard in Versace dress and Jimmy Choo shoes (anyone else loving the voluminous hair?):

Anna Gunn in Donna Karan Atelier. I think award for best train definitely goes to this.

Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive:

A regular on my favourites list, Julie Bowen in  Carolina Herrera:

Kerry Washington in Balenciaga:

Margot Robbie in Gucci dress and Christian Louboutin shoes:

Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta dress and Christian Louboutin shoes:

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta:

Taylor Swift in Carolina Herrera:

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior:

And finally Lupita Nyong'o in Ralph Lauren. Can we talk about how amazing this dress is? The colour and cut of this dress complement her perfectly. The cape is just the perfect amount of head-turning drama for this rising star (who by the way, also happens to be a Yale grad #nbd).

Which dress was your favourite?

Starts with Inspiration: Neutral Palette

Starts with Inspiration: Nude hues

The weather outside is unrelentingly colder by the day, which inevitably leads to daydreams of sunshine and lighter clothing.  There is nothing more feminine and elegant than a clean neutral ensemble.

The beauty about these pieces is that they can all be "winterized" to maximize wear. And come Spring, these will look just as gorgeous styled together. The tank is perfect for layering under a blazer or sweater coat. The skirt can easily be paired with black opaque tights and a silk blouse or light cashmere crew neck. The blazer can be paired with leather pants or dark skinnies, while the cuff is an all-season staple. Don't opt out winter white - the structured cream tote is perfect for elevating a camel coat. And finally, while I wouldn't recommend trekking in the snow with these highly covetable flats, they're perfect for in-office wear when heels just won't cut it.
